Computational Thinking

corporate-innovationAt Nimbeo, we are working in a number of projects related to education technology.  Hence, we carefully monitor trends in education, particularly those attaining a certain level of innovation. Education is a trillion dollar market, as Salman Khan, the founder of Khan Academy, likes to point out. And it is also one of those critical domains where innovation is necessary, because if a Greek golden age student, from the times of Plato, would now enter a classroom it would be one of those few environments or scenarios probably still to be understood and recognized.

Some trends are pushing the power of MOOCs,  the “almanac of higher education”, which strive for monetizing the effort of some of the best Universities in the world, and proof that results are good, or at least similar to offline education ones However, these are not the only innovation lines.

Ultimately,  some of our efforts are devoted to Computational Thinking, where Google, who might know a thing or two on computation, has been researching and pondering recently.  It would encompass helping students, mostly K-12 level to understand and work with other related disciplines through knowledge acquired by and from programming and computer-related skills, mostly algorithms such as finding patterns, decomposing the problem, abstracting and so on and so forth.

An interesting approach? As the years have rolled by, many countries are moving those an educational schema where kids should learn to code as soon as possible with the support of authorities. For example, in Australia with the Learnable program or in the UK,  teaching students the power of data.

These are exciting times for education, particularly, in education technology, so stay tuned with us in Nimbeo!!
